2026 is shaping up to be a milestone year for Avia Flight Academy.

From expanding our fleet to 15 aircraft and opening our second Connecticut location in Oxford, to becoming a Piper Flight School Alliance member, introducing weekly ground school and hosting quarterly FAA safety seminars, we have continued to invest in the people, aircraft and resources that support our students.

Avia Flight Academy was founded in Stratford, Connecticut in 2019 with a clear mission: to provide high-quality, structured flight training while developing safe, confident and professional pilots.

As we grow, that mission remains at the center of every decision we make.

Four New Piper Archers Bring Our Fleet to 15 Aircraft

One of our most significant investments in 2026 has been the addition of four new Piper Archers, bringing the Avia Flight Academy fleet to 15 aircraft.

For a growing flight school, fleet expansion is about much more than adding airplanes. Aircraft availability directly affects a student’s ability to train consistently, maintain momentum and progress efficiently through a flight training program.

The addition of four Piper Archers gives our students greater access to modern training aircraft while allowing us to support a growing student population across our Connecticut locations.

Our expanded fleet supports students through multiple stages of their aviation journey, from initial Private Pilot training through Instrument, Commercial and advanced professional pilot training.

For students pursuing aviation as a career, learning in a consistent, professional training environment is an important part of preparing for what comes next.

Avia Flight Academy Expands to Oxford, Connecticut

Perhaps our biggest milestone of 2026 is the opening of our second flight training location at Waterbury-Oxford Airport in Oxford, Connecticut.

Avia Flight Academy began at Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford, and Stratford will always be an important part of our story. As our academy and student community have grown, however, we saw an opportunity to bring Avia’s approach to flight training to more aspiring pilots throughout Connecticut and more.

Our new Oxford location expands our reach into western and central Connecticut and provides a convenient flight training option for students from Oxford, Southbury, Middlebury, Waterbury, Naugatuck, Cheshire, Newtown and surrounding communities.

Most importantly, our growth into Oxford isn’t about creating a different version of Avia.

Students at both locations receive the same commitment to structured training, safety, professionalism and individual progress that has defined our academy since its beginning.

Becoming a Piper Flight School Alliance Member

Another important milestone for Avia in 2026 is becoming a Piper Flight School Alliance member.

This is particularly meaningful to us because Piper aircraft have long been at the heart of the Avia training fleet.

Our growing Piper fleet reflects our commitment to providing students with a consistent and professional training environment from the earliest stages of flight training through more advanced programs.

With the addition of four new Piper Archers and the continued expansion of our fleet, joining the Piper Flight School Alliance represents a natural next step for Avia.

It also reflects something we have believed from the beginning: the aircraft, technology, curriculum, instructors and training environment surrounding a student all play a role in developing a better pilot.

We are proud to be part of a network committed to developing the next generation of aviators.

Weekly Ground School — Every Wednesday

Flight training doesn’t happen only in the airplane.

Strong aeronautical knowledge is essential to becoming a safe and capable pilot, which is why Avia has continued to expand the ground-training side of our programs.

In 2026, we established weekly Wednesday Ground School sessions for our students.

These instructor-led sessions reinforce important concepts students encounter throughout their flight training and provide an opportunity to go beyond simply preparing for an FAA knowledge test.

Our goal isn’t for students to simply memorize information long enough to pass an exam. We want them to understand the material and, more importantly, know how to apply that knowledge in the cockpit.

Weekly ground school also gives students and instructors another opportunity to learn together and strengthens the aviation community we’re building at Avia.

Expanding Aviation Safety Education Through Quarterly FAA Seminars

Safety has always been at the center of how we approach flight training at Avia Flight Academy, and in 2026 we expanded that commitment beyond our regular student curriculum.

Avia now hosts quarterly FAA safety seminars, bringing pilots, instructors, students and members of the local aviation community together for ongoing education and discussion.

These seminars explore practical safety topics that affect pilots throughout their flying careers, including aeronautical decision-making, runway safety, preflight planning, risk management and other real-world operational considerations.

Hosting these events gives our students an opportunity to learn alongside experienced aviators while also connecting Avia with the broader Connecticut aviation community.

For us, safety education shouldn’t end when a student passes a checkride.

Aviation requires continuous learning, reflection and improvement throughout a pilot’s career. By hosting regular FAA safety seminars alongside our weekly ground school program, we’re working to create an environment where that culture of learning becomes part of being an Avia pilot.
