FAA Requirements (Part 61)
To earn a Commercial Pilot License, applicants must meet the following FAA requirements:
- Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate
- Hold a valid Second-Class Medical Certificate (minimum)
- Accumulate at least 250 total flight hours, including:
- 100 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC)
- 50 hours Cross-Country PIC
- 10 hours of instrument training
- 10 hours in a Complex or Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA)
- Pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Knowledge Test
- Successfully complete the FAA Oral and Practical Test (Checkride)

By following a structured training plan, staying consistent with lessons, and arriving prepared by studying assigned materials, students are able to progress confidently and remain as close as possible to FAA minimum hours—without ever compromising safety or proficiency.

Training Timeline (Typical Progression)
- Enrollment, Evaluation & Onboarding
Review of logbook, experience, and goals to build a personalized training plan.
- Advanced Maneuvers & Precision Training
Mastery of commercial maneuvers such as chandelles, lazy eights, steep spirals, and precision landings.
- Concurrent Time Building
Time building is integrated intentionally into training through structured cross-country flying and proficiency-focused flights.
- Complex / TAA Training
Required training in complex or technically advanced aircraft to develop systems management and higher-performance proficiency.
- Checkride Preparation
Mock checkrides, knowledge review, and final polish.
- FAA Practical Test (Checkride)
Oral and flight test with an FAA-designated examiner.
Average time to completion: 5–8 months, depending on availability and consistency.
Commercial Pilot Package & Pricing
Commercial Pilot Training Package – $8,339
Payable in 3 installments of $2,779
Package includes:
- 20 total hours of training
- 10 hours dual instruction in a complex or TAA aircraft
- 10 hours dual instruction
- 10 hours of ground instruction
- Commercial training materials and online ground school access
Airport concession fee (4%) applies.
Time Building
Under Part 61, pilots must accumulate 250 total flight hours. Most students entering the Commercial program will need additional time building beyond prior Private and Instrument training.
Time building options include:
- Solo or shared flying
- Basic to advanced avionics aircraft
- Discounted rates with account deposits
- Up to 50 hours logged in our AATD simulator with a CFI present
Estimated time-building costs vary based on aircraft type, sharing options, and prepayment discounts.
Admissions & Prerequisites
To begin Commercial Pilot training at Avia, students must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be fluent in English
- Hold a Private Pilot Certificate
- Instrument Rating strongly recommended
- Hold a valid Second-Class Medical Certificate
- Maintain required renters’ insurance
